Today, Wednesday June 21st 2017, we continue to discuss the definition of an abstract game - Jonathan is really, really keen to discuss where the line of representation in a game stops it being abstract, but we're saving that for Friday - and we also discuss some excellent, contemporary abstract games.

Episode: MN 0169 Oink Games - Deep Sea Adventure, Insider, Fake Artist, Maskmen, The Pyramid's Deadline ( 31.04 MB / 38:45)

Nathan likes tiny boxes packed with lots of game pieces from the Japanese game company, Oink Games.

We start off talking Deep Sea Adventure, a press your luck, 20 minute game for 3-6 players.

We continue telling you more about Insider, a 20-question style game for 4-8 players in less than 10 minutes.

Third up is A Fake Artist Goes to New York, where players collectively draw a picture while trying to guess which player doesn't know what the group is drawing. This game plays 5-10 players in 20 minutes.

The Pyramid's Deadline is a game of building a beautiful resting spot for the Pharoah, but if you fail you will be executed. 2-6 players can play in 10-25 minutes.

We end the discussion with Maskmen, a shedding card game with a Lunchadores theme. It should work well with 2-6 players in about 30 minutes.

  • 18:09 Back to our motto "Mo money, mo fun"
  • 26:44 I believe you will find winning 3 out of 7 games is  not winning "precisely half your games"   ;)
  • 31:04 Mutually assured lack of fun
  • 33:16 Who would have associated card games with random luck and gambling on value?
  • 35:02 Phew it wasn't 80 euro, it was only 70 something!

Episode: BGA Episode 122: Top 10 Two Player Games ( 27.93 MB / 30:31)

Chris and Anthony are back with BGA - this week looking at our top 10 two player games. These games are the perfect fit for those quiet game nights alone with a significant other, filler when you get left out of the large game group between big plays, or when on the road at a con.

Plus, we're looking at Acquisition Disorders with The Godfather from CMON and The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31, one of which we spotted at Origins this past week. We also dig into recent plays of Gekido Battle Bots and Sushi Go Party! with At the Table reviews.

  • Question of the Week: 4:00
  • Acquisition Disorders:7:10
  • At the Table:12:30
  • Top 10 Two Player Games:19:09
